Why Buy the 2018 Dodge Journey
Debuting in 2008 for the 2009 model year, the Dodge Journey has since earned high marks for its ride quality and affordability. For the 2018 model year, its manufacturer, Chrysler, trims the number of available trims to four, thus making it more streamlined than ever before. The remaining trims are the SE, SXT, Crossroad, and GT.
Exterior – Reasons Why Buy the Journey
Standard exterior features on the SUV include automatic halogen quad headlights, power heated manual-folding side mirrors, roof rails, and 17-inch steel wheels. On the SXT, the steel wheels are replaced by 17-inch alloy ones, fog lights are added for more penetrating illumination, and halogen light bulbs on the taillights are replaced by LEDs for brighter lighting and longer service. The wheels on the Crossroad are upgraded to larger, 19-inch hyper-black alloy ones; the wheels on the GT are 19-inch painted alloys.
Interior – 2018 Dodge Journey – Request information interior
For the first time in its history, a third row, which was formerly optional, is standard. Consequently, the maximum occupancy of the vehicle is measured at seven people. Designed and marketed as a midsize crossover SUV, the vehicle provides a passenger volume of 123.7 cubic feet. Standard cargo space is measured at 10.7 cubic feet. However, you can fold down the third-row seats to expand it to 37 cubic feet, or fold down both second- and third-row seats for a maximum cargo volume of 67.6 cubic feet. In addition to their foldability, the second row can tilt and slide to allow occupants access the third row, which has reclining ability. On the Crossroad, the driver’s seat is upgraded with 6-way power adjustability and 4-way adjustable lumbar support.
Front-seat heating capability and leather upholstery with perforated panels are reserved for the top-level GT. Standard comfort and convenience features include dual-zone climate control, remote proximity key access, a USB port and auxiliary audio jack for hooking up mobile devices, six-speaker audio, an AM/FM radio tuner, and Uconnect® infotainment integration with a 4.3-inch touchscreen display. The SXT has its HVAC system upgraded to tri-zone climate control (due to added rear air conditioning). On the Crossroad, climate control is automatic, there’s an auto-dimming rearview mirror to dim rear headlight glare, the 4.3-inch display is replaced by an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and Bluetooth® wireless technology and a one-year complimentary SiriusXM® satellite radio subscription are added. Exclusive to the GT are remote start and a six-speaker 368-watt Alpine® audio system.
Mechanical / Powertrain – Request More Information
Powering the SUV is a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, which produces 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. As the high-performance trim, the GT goes with a 3.6-liter V6 with 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque; it is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. You can go with a front-wheel drivetrain or an all-wheel drivetrain; the latter is preferred for enhanced traction ability. The SUV gets a MacPherson strut front and a multi-link rear independent suspension for absorbing bumps and other sources of turbulence from the road. On the Crossroad, the suspension is tuned for a softer and more turbulence-absorbing drive, and it is maximized for ultimate smoothness on the GT.
Safety – Why Buy with Safety Features
To prevent injury (or worse) in a crash, this SUV comes with a driver’s knee airbag, dual front impact airbags, dual front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and dual side curtains that flank all three rows. Other standard safety features include electronic vehicle stability and roll mitigation for maintaining the intended driving path even during sudden maneuvers, high-beam daytime running lights to make pedestrians and other motorists aware of your presence, traction control to maximize tire grip with the road, trailer sway damping to maintain control of whatever you have attached to the trailer hitch, disc brakes on all wheels to optimize stopping ability, and an anti-lock braking system for preventing wheel lock-up during hard stops. There’s also a theft-deterrent system, which combines the remote keyless entry capability with engine immobilization to prevent unauthorized access and use. A security alarm is added on the GT to bolster the anti-theft mechanism.
