Why Buy the 2018 Jeep Cherokee
This nameplate is often credited with helping to popularize the compact SUV, which provides lots of interior space and a certain degree of all-weather capability at an affordable price. And what makes it stand further apart from the rest is its unparalleled off-roading ability; it is more capable than most small SUVs in plowing through mud, sand, and rocky terrain. The 2018 model year is part of the nameplate’s fifth production cycle, which comprises models that are collectively called KL. Four trims are available: the Latitude, Trailhawk®, Limited, and Overland.
Exterior – Reasons Why Buy the Cherokee
As part of the KL generation of models, the 2018 iteration has smoothed-out edges, thus giving it a more modern look than models past. Standard exterior features on the SUV include roof rails, automatic bi-xenon high-intensity headlights, fog lights, LED taillamps, and power side mirrors. With the Trailhawk® trim, there are turn-signal indicators and manual fold-away ability on the side mirrors. Exclusive to the Overland is a dual exhaust system with bright tips. While the Latitude and Trailhawk® ride on 17-inch alloy wheels, 18-inch alloy wheels go on the Limited and Overland.
Interior – 2018 Jeep Cherokee – Request information interior
Designed as a five-seater, the 2018 Jeep Cherokee has a total interior volume of 158.3 cubic feet. Although standard cargo space is measured at 24.6 cubic feet, you can fold down the rear seats to expand it to 54.9 cubic feet. Standard comfort and convenience features include six-speaker audio, Bluetooth® wireless technology for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, a USB port and audio jack for connecting mobile devices, and Uconnect® multimedia integration with a 5-inch display. Upgrading to the Trailhawk® adds dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless access, 8-way power adjustability to the driver’s seat, an SD card slot for playing flash memory-stored digital media, a one-year complimentary subscription to SiriusXM® satellite radio, a mobile device charging-only USB port, an 8.4-inch display, and Uconnect® Access for functions that include car lock/unlock and vehicle locating ability. The Limited adds remote vehicle start, a heated steering wheel, and front-seat heating ability. Also, the Limited is the only trim with standard leather seat trim. The Overland also stands out-thanks to equipment and capabilities like HD Radio™, a wood-and-leather steering wheel, ventilated and powered front seats, a nine-speaker audio system, and 8-inch touchscreen navigation.
Mechanical / Powertrain – Request More Information
Typically, the 2018 SUV relies on the MultiAir® for power. A 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, the MultiAir® provides an output of 184 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. On the Overland, however, you can get the 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 instead of the 4-cylinder. Larger and more powerful than the MultiAir®, the Pentastar provides 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Since the Trailhawk® is designed and marketed as the most off-road-capable trim available, it’s the only one with a standard four-wheel drivetrain (4×4), while on the others, you can choose between a 4×4 system and a front-wheel-drive system (4×2). On all trims save for the Trailhawk®, the 4×4 system is the Jeep Active Drive I®, which comprises a rear axle disconnect feature that only engages when necessary for improved efficiency.
The Trailhawk® has the Jeep Active Drive Lock® instead. Noted as the most advanced 4×4 system available on this particular nameplate, the Drive Lock® provides low-speed traction and flat towing abilities, as well as boosted off-roading with a mechanical rear axle lock. All trims get the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System, which provides four driving modes (Auto, Snow, Sport and Sand/Mud) for adjusting the powertrain and drivetrain to optimize performance on virtually all types of weather and road conditions. Also present is trailer sway control, which uses the electronic stability control system of the SUV to adjust the throttle and apply brake pressure. As a result, both the SUV and the trailer attached to it are kept under control. The vehicle’s four-wheel independent suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars keep you cushioned from road turbulence. Notably, the suspension on the Trailhawk® is raised further from the ground for improved undercarriage protection.
Safety – Why Buy with Safety Features
For cushioning and restraint in the event of a collision, the vehicle has a pair of front airbags, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and dual roof-mounted side curtain airbags. Also standard are LED daytime running lamps for increasing conspicuity, a rearview camera with parking sensors for ultimate awareness of what and who is behind you, four-wheel disc brakes for keeping stopping distances short, an anti-lock braking system for preventing wheel lock-up during abrupt stops, hill start assist for safe driving up a steep slope, electronic vehicle stability control with roll mitigation for keeping you on the right driving path, and traction control for optimizing tire grip on the driving surface. Added on the Trailhawk®, Limited, and Overland trims are blind spot and cross path detection.
